Dr Palmer is a proven and experienced IP and innovation practitioner with a strong entrepreneurial background and passion for technology exploitation. He started his career in academia in the UK at Loughborough University followed by a period as a visiting technology commercialisation fellow at Cornell University (US) and the healthcare industry in the UK. He has co-founded a number of IP rich technology businesses in the healthcare and IT sectors some of which were based on his research and funded by venture capital and corporate strategic partnerships. He is the co-author of 14 granted technology patents in the UK, US, Europe and Japan.
Derek is also an investor in technology rich businesses which are underpinned by strong IP and have strong commercial exploitation potential to provide return on investment for stakeholders. Dr Palmer received his PhD in Chemistry from Loughborough University in the UK and an MBA from the same University.
Dr Palmer is in discussions with a leading Nairobi law firm, accountancy firm and a University in Nairobi with view of opening an IP commercialisation advisory firm in Kenya and East Africa.
